Bayfront is a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center and was the first in Pinellas County to earn this prestigious accreditation from the National Society of Chest Pain Centers. This national designation affirms Bayfront's commitment to providing patients with the highest quality heart care from a patient's arrival in the emergency room until discharge.
Four beds in our emergency room-based center are designated for chest pain observation 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. Once determined that the patient needs additional cardiac care, the patient has instant access to Bayfront's expert team of cardiologists, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, catheterization laboratories, and premier open-heart surgery center.
The National Society of Chest Pain Centers is a patient-centered professional organization focused on improving care for patients and the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
Our goal at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is not only to diagnose and treat medical conditions, but to partner with our patients, and their loved ones, through the next steps of treatment and recovery. Mended Hearts Support Group

Cardiac Defibrillator Support Group
Free Cardiac Defibrillator meetings are held four times a year in February, April, October, December, on the second Wednesday of the month, from noon-1:30 p.m. in Bayfront’s Sheen Conference Center. For more information, call (727) 893-6424.
James Heart Center
James Heart Center has earned the reputation as the area’s most comprehensive collection of talent and technology. Bayfront cardiologists, surgeons and cardiac specialists helped build the Center and selected the best equipment for one-of-a-kind procedures.
For example, our specialty arrhythmia program provides advanced electrophysiology capabilities to evaluate the heart’s electrical system. And, when a condition calls for intervention, minimally invasive techniques such as the placement of drug-eluting stents, coronary and vascular angioplasty and cardiac ablation, procedures are performed at the James Heart Center. Bayfront’s cardiac program is locally and nationally recognized for clinical excellence and leadership in innovation.

To diagnose cardiac conditions quickly and accurately, the James Heart Center offers the most comprehensive array of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools. Our free-standing center provides more cardiac testing and treatment space than any other provider in the area, and patients are only steps away from Bayfront’s prestigious cardiac surgical program.
James Heart Center features
- 18 private rooms focused on a patient’s comfort.
- Four state-of-the-art cardiovascular catheterization laboratories for arrhythmia studies, stenting and angioplasty.
- Suites for ECHO, EKG and TEE/transesophageal echocardiography.
- Two specially equipped electrophysiology labs to study and treat electrical issues in the heart, such as arrhythmia.
- James Heart Center is connected to Bayfront's cardiac surgical wing and cardiac intensive care unit for quick, seamless transport, if needed.
